Curriculum Enrichment Arts Created Together (ACT) Programming Working with classroom teachers, parent book arts related programs that enhance the cirriculum at Fiske. Big Backyard A series of parent lead nature walks on school property and adjacent lands that enhances the science and social studies curriculum for each grade. Kids Cooking Green Through hands on cooking and lively classroom presentations, students learn about nutrition and the positive impact eating locally can have on the environment, and their bodies Science Fair The Science Fair showcases grade 2- 5 student 'inventions' and 'experiments. Science Programming Committee members work with classroom teachers to book science programs that complement the Fiske science curriculum. Fourth Grade Science Club The 4th grade Science Club meets weekly over a three month period to explore different scientific experiments and projects. Fundraising Halloween Fun Fest for the Arts Parents plan a festive fall event to raise money to suuport Arts Created Together curriculum enrichment programs. Boxtops Our Box Tops committee helps collect the Box Tops (that parents clip) from our students and sends them in twice a year to earn a donation for Fiske. Fiske Frost Silent Auction Parents assist in the food, beverage and decorating selections for the evening and also write to, or call, vendors seeking donations to raise money for our school. School Photos Parents help comb hair and straighten collars at the annual school picture day held in September. Teacher Silent Auction Volunteers are needed to solicit donations from teachers, publicize the donations, and run the auction on the day of the Fiske Fair. Community Building Bingo Night We already have the bingo machine and supplies, so volunteers focus on publicizing the January event, obtaining prizes and recruiting a Bingo Master to make the calls. Diversity Pot Luck Supper Volunteers help generate publicity and set up the gym for an evening of international cuisine in November. Family Math Nights Parents help set-up grade appropriate math games in the school cafeteria. Parents do not need to be math gurus to participate! Pizza Night Volunteers are needed to distribute sign-up forms, collect payments, order the pizza and layout the gym! This event will take on the same day as Field Day. Fiske Fair Parents run all aspects of the annual fair (held in late May) including games, prizes, entertainment, food etc. Metco Family Friends Families are matched with a Boston Family and participate in monthly "family friend playdates" and an end of year pizza party. Welcoming Committee Parents organize a fall and spring events for new families and answer questions and concerns of parents new to Fiske. Communications Fiske School Website Parents with web design skills update and maintain the PTO sections of the Fiske Website. School Directory Volunteers compile address and contact information for the 2010-2011 school directory. School Support Field Day Parents assist the PE teacher in coordinating a June morning full of outdoor games and sports. Landscaping, Chair: Lee Webster Parents add some color to the grounds with perennials and annuals, as needed. Recycling Parents work with staff and students to lighten Fiske’s “environmental footprint” by reducing, re-using and recycling. Room Parents Room parents help facilitate classroom to home communication, recruit volunteers for PTO events and work with teachers to plan class celebrations. Teacher Appreciation Luncheon Parents prepare and set-up a delicious lunch for all Fiske teachers and staff on the first Thursday afternoon in May. Safe Routes to School Promote 'walk to school' days and advocate anti-idling and less traffic at our school. |
