Enrichment Arts Created Together (ACT) Programming Working with classroom teachers, parents arrange for and book arts related programs that enrich the curriculum at Fiske. Example programs are Chinese Ribbon Dancers, Classical Café, Tepee Building, and Visiting Authors. Big Backyard A series of parent lead nature walks in fall, spring and winter (depending on grade) mostly on school property and nearby land that enhances the science and social studies curriculum for each grade. No prior experience is needed and training will be provided. More ... Kids Cooking Green Parent liaisons help 5th grade students with hands-on cooking and lively classroom presentations. Participants will learn about nutrition and the positive impact eating locally can have on the environment, and their bodies. The group meets weekly after school for several weeks in the early spring. Fundraising Halloween Fun Fest for the Arts Parents plan a fall festival to raise money to support Arts Created Together curriculum enrichment programs. Volunteer opportunities include planning the event and volunteering and setting up the various activity centers on the day of the event. Boxtops for Education Our Box Tops committee helps collect and count the Box Tops clipped and sent in by families and sends them in twice a year to earn a donation for Fiske. Fiske Frost Social & Silent Auction Parents assist in the food, beverage, decoration, and entertainment selections for this adults-only evening event. Parents are also needed to solicit donations of items to be auctioned to raise money to fund PTO programs as well as to volunteer on the day of the event. Community Building Bingo Night Volunteers focus on publicizing the January event, obtaining prizes and recruiting a Bingo Master to make the calls using the PTO bingo machine. Diversity Pot Luck Supper Volunteers help generate publicity and set up the gym for an evening of international cuisine in November. Family Math Nights Parents help set up a fun-filled night of grade appropriate math games in the school cafeteria. Fiske Fair Parents run all aspects of the annual fair which includes planning all the games and activities (e.g. dunk tank, cake walk, moon bounce, etc.) as well as planning and coordinating refreshments, set up for the event, coordination of volunteers and more! The fair is held in late May/early June and provides a fun filled community building event. School Support Field Day Parents assist the PE teacher in coordinating volunteers to staff a June morning full of outdoor games and sports. Landscaping Parents add some color to the grounds with perennials and annuals, as needed. Recycling Parents work with staff and students to lighten Fiske’s “environmental footprint” by reducing, re-using and recycling. | Science Fair Organized by parents, the Science Fair showcases inventions and experiments of participating students in Grades 2- 5. Fourth Grade Science Club A series of parent led science experiments working with 4th Grade students in the Science Club. The club meets weekly after school over a three month period to explore different scientific experiments and projects. Talent Show School Photos Parents
help comb hair and straighten collars at the annual school picture day held in
September.
Teacher Silent Auction This parent committee works with the Teacher Representative to solicit donations from teachers (e.g. private lunch with the Principal). Volunteers are needed to publicize the donations, and run the auction on the day of the Fiske Fair. Community Building Metco Family Friends Families are matched with a Boston Family and participate in monthly "family friend playdates" on Thursday afternoons and also an end of year pizza party. Welcoming Committee Parents organize events for new families and answer questions and concerns of parents new to Fiske. Fiske School Website Parents with web design skills update and maintain the Fiske PTO Website. Lexington 300th Parents help with organizing events from the Fiske PTO and the town to celebrate Lexington’s 300th Anniversary (e.g. volunteer at our booth at the Country Fair, help build a float for the Patriot’s Day Parade). School Support Room Parents Room parents help facilitate classroom to home communication, recruit volunteers for PTO events and work with teachers to plan class celebrations. Teacher Appreciation Luncheon Parents plan, set-up and serve a delicious “pot luck” lunch for all Fiske teachers and staff on the first Thursday afternoon in May. Safe Routes to School Promote 'walk to school' days and advocate anti-idling and less traffic at our school. |
