Bingo Night, Chair: Laurel Driscoll This committee organizes the annual bingo night in January. We already have the bingo machine and supplies, so volunteers focus on publicizing the event, obtaining prizes and recruiting a Bingo Master to make the calls. Minimal set-up and clean-up is required.
Diversity Pot Luck Supper, Chairs: Jackie Lupone, Sara Bazos Parents are needed to coordinate a Fiske family favorite in November. Volunteers need to generate publicity and set up the gym for an evening of international cuisine. This committee is active in October and November - once the evening is over, so is the job of this committee!
Family Math Nights, Chair: Open A Family math night for each grade is held early in the spring. Parents and children come to school in the evening to play fun math games at grade appropriate level. We have all the games and instructions and volunteers need only set-up and provide instructions for the games. Parents do not need to be math gurus to participate!
Pizza Night, Chair: Robin Gannon The annual pizza party will be held the same day as Field day this year. Volunteers distribute sign-up forms, collect payments, order the pizza and layout the gym! This event will take place in June and requires some work in the preceeding 4-6 weeks.
Fiske Fair, Chair: Open The annual Fiske Fair is our biggest community event and is planned for May 2011. Volunteers work primarily during the late winter and spring to organize the Fair. Parents run all aspects of the fair including games, prizes, entertainment, food etc.
Metco Family Friends, Chair: Kathlene McGrail Volunteers work with the Lexington Public Schools Metco Coordinator to keep the Metco program at Fiske running smoothly. Parents publicize monthly 'family friend' dates and match incoming Metco students with families. A pizza party is also planned at the end of the year.
Welcoming Committee, Chair: Open We want new families to our school to feel welcome! Volunteers reach out to new families and answer any questions they have about the Fiske School. Parents also plan an ice cream social for new families in September. This is a fun way to learn about our diverse community. |
