Fit Girls - Grade 4 & 5

Fit Girls is a non-competitive fitness initiative for Grade 4 and 5 girls that inspires active lifestyles, friendships, personal growth, and the confidence that comes from working toward and achieving goals. Fit Girls is guided by a curriculum developed by a marathon running librarian that is being used all over the country (www.fitgirls.org).
 

Fit Girls is coached by parent volunteers and is similar to Girls on the Run, but has a reading and community service component. The goal is forward motion - running, jogging, walking...non-competitive.

  • Girls will practice after school 2 times a week (Wednesdays & Fridays) for an hour at Fiske.
  • Girls train for 8 weeks
  • Complete in a 5K race at the end of the program (Race to be determined). 

GENERAL INFORMATION

TRAINING - please note DATES AND TIMES (NO training on April 14, 19 or 21)!

All participants meet and check in under the Playground Shade Structure

Wednesdays

  • April 5: 12:15 to 1:30 pm (1/2 day - Conference)
  • April 12:  12:15 to 1:30 pm (1/2 day - Conferences)
  • April 19: NO TRAINING (Spring Break)
  • April 26 - June 7: 3:15 to 4:30 pm

Fridays

  • April 7: 3:15 - 4:30 pm
  • April14: NO TRAINING (Spring Break)
  • April 21: NO TRAINING(Spring Break)
  • April 28 - June 9:  3:15 - 4:30 pm

If there is inclement weather, training will be cancelled.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Any girl that CANNOT make practice, MUST inform Vanessa Keeney ASAP at either vanessakeeney@gmail.com or text/call 650-644-7714

All participants must have:

  • Sneakers
  • Water bottle
  • Athletic wear (pants/t-shirt/sweatshirt)

We ask that all participants be picked up PROMPTLY at the end of practice (1:30 or 4:30 pm). If your girls are walkers or going home with someone else, please let me/ other coaches know. We want to ensure the safety of all the girls.

 

SAFETY

Also, we will not have access to the school or the nurse, if your child has any medical needs (epipen /inhaler etc), please contact Vanessa Keeney.

We expect that all the girls participating will listen, respect and follow their Coaches instructions. We will be run through woods, crossing roads etc., and your child's safety is our #1 priority. Any unruly behavior will not be tolerated.

 

RACES

Our Team will be running the Battle Road 5K Race here in Lexington, on Sunday, May 21. We expect that all the girls participate in this event. Please DO NOT REGISTER, as the program coordinator will be registering the team.

We also have an optional 5K race, which is the Color Run at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, on Sunday, June 11. This is a fun, less serious, race that the girls have enjoyed over the years. Further details will be provided, closer to the date, to those interested.

Towards the end of the training season we will sit down and discuss the book with the girls.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE
